In College I studied American history. In those classes we came to understand that there have been a series of civil rights struggles in the history of the world and that essentially we are now living in a time of equality. This was reinforced by what my father said "nowadays you live in a time of equality, when we were young we had to fight every day for being Indian."
So now we live a fairly good life, where we do not have to fight for our rights to got to school, have a job, purchase food at restaurants, or marry whomever we wish. This is the reality of the 1950s and earlier.
Yet the republican politicians today appear to want to revisit this struggle and reverse decades of positive progress. What exactly is their base of support? What is their plan for winning the next election as they appear to be alienating everyone with their rhetoric. Did they actually attend college, and do they know anything about the history of the world? do they think all Americans stupid and unable to figure out that nearly every statement they are making is a lie? Do they really think they can promise to pass laws limiting the rights of women will really win them votes? There is something crazy about this, either the fix is in, or they are simply clueless automatons.
